The very first millwrights were actually carpenters who structured the water wheel and shaft for factory use in the early days of the Industrial Revolution. These carpenters were given the name millwright because they were responsible for keeping the mill in good working order, or 'righting the mill'.
Millwrights designed and supervised the overall construction of mills, and were usually involved in the installation and major repair of equipment.
Today, millwrights install, maintain and repair industrial machinery and equipment in a wide variety of industries. To find out more, see What is a Millwright.
